A special thanks to our 2015 Conference Attendees

robynashleyDearest members and associates,

On behalf of the 2014-2015 MACMA Officers and Directors, we thank each of you who attended the conference. In this very busy and hectic world, we appreciate you for taking the time and effort to join us in Durham, NC this past week. We also thank you for your participation, and the sharing of your ideas and expertise. We were thrilled to meet you all.

  • We learned how to be bolder in our business from Bill Huffine.
  • Kevin Craig shared new content opportunities to reach key segments in our markets.
  • We tapped into decades and decades of experience with living single-copy legend Frank Mastromarino.
  • Josh Awtry gave us a refreshing perspective on what newsrooms should be doing to help us be more successful.
  • We heard from publishers from dailies, weeklies and regional publishing enterprises – and had the opportunity for honest and transparent discussion on the future of our industry
  • And Don Wilson kept us all entertained (and a little shocked).

We certainly hope that the conference has been all that you expected it to be, and that you have taken the opportunity to make new friends, renew old acquaintances and make contact with decision-makers and partners for your continued success.

A special thanks to our sponsors: PDI Plastics, Mike Zinser Law Group, Athlon Media Group, Keenan Group, The Wilson Gregory Agency, Schermerhorn Bros. Co., Action Consumer Marketing and Never Stop Select Services. Please stay tuned for an email inviting you to take a survey about your experience and how we can make it better next year.

We can’t wait to hear from you.

March Update From The President

Hello to all MACMA members and associates. It’s very hard for me to contain my excitement these days! The MACMA Board of Directors have been hard at work putting together a conference program that no audience or circulation professional will want to miss. It’s especially an honor for me to preside over the conference this year as my newspaper The News and Observer is proud to be hosting. The 2015 Conference, “Ideas in the Triangle” focuses on the trifecta of our business – revenue, audience and brand. Hear from industry leaders and top companies as they share best practices and insights in audience and revenue growth, digital transformation and circulation strategies. Learn more about the program and speakers here. Meet and visit with the many vendors that will be there to help serve all of your needs for supplying you with the right tools to keep growing your newspaper businesses.

And there’s great networking with plenty of fun and entertainment too. Hit the links and play at The UNC Finley Golf Club one of North Carolina’s premier golf courses Sunday morning and participate in the annual MACMA golf tournament. Meet, greet and socialize with friends and colleagues at the Sunday evening cocktail reception hosted by Michael Zinser. Kick back and enjoy game night Monday evening and try your hand at craps, roulette, poker and blackjack in a friendly Vegas type atmosphere. Don’t worry, there’s no real gambling and it’s all for fun and bragging rights.

While you are in town at the conference take in the sites and see what Durham North Carolina has offer. An exciting downtown area, fine dining, The American Tobacco Museum, Duke University, and much more.

Strap on your hats because this is going to be a one fast paced and energizing event! If you haven’t registered and booked your hotel stay, please do so before April 1, 2015!

Thank you,

Matthew Wolfe, MACMA President 2014-2015

February Update from the President

[dropcap1]H[/dropcap1]ello to all MACMA members and associates. It has been a very productive year for MACMA. After a successful conference this past May the MACMA Board of Directors quickly secured the beautiful venue which will be the site of this year’s annual conference The Hilton Durham near Duke University. This past October, MACMA presented the Fall Idea Sharing Symposium Series sponsored by SNPA, The News & Record in Greensboro, NC. and the three press associations. Attendance at the event in North Carolina was the largest ever since MACMA began the symposium series back in 2011 where many exciting ideas were shared among colleagues.

In early December of 2014 MACMA opened registration for the 96th Annual MACMA Conference which allowed members, vendors and associates ample time to begin making plans for what has become one of the highest rated sectional conferences in the country.

MACMA is proud to announce this year’s keynote speaker will be Bill Huffine and his “Five Bold Moves That Worked” presentation will be something that you won’t want to miss. Be certain to register soon for the conference and make your hotel reservations quickly. Last year rooms were fully booked and some folks had to make alternate accommodation plans so please don’t be left out! As always I ask you to please patronize our vendors. “Shop Local” and support those that support us. Without their support this fine organization would not exist. Please feel free to reach out to myself or any of those on the executive committee as well as our state directors if you have any needs. We are here to serve YOU!

Thank you,

Matthew Wolfe, MACMA President 2014-2015
